I use WordPress as the framework for my client’s websites due to its offering of a lot of flexibility and features without incurring outside programming costs. WordPress is a free and open-source content management system (CMS) based on PHP and MySQL. Another benefit is that after the site is launched — if they choose to — my clients can edit their content themselves without worrying that they might break the layout.
WordPress uses themes to provide the styling and layout of the site. There are hundreds of themes out there provided by third-party developers. Many are free, but the best ones offer technical support and advanced features, and can be purchased for a nominal fee (usually under $100).
A theme is chosen that matches the features and layout the client has requested. Next I customize the site’s theme with my client’s branding, colors, photography, etc. Some clients want moderate customization, while others want a complete transformation.
Below are examples of websites I designed and customized for my clients.
