Musical Drops

Really fun shoot! See more musical drops on Flickr.

These photos were taken with my Photography Meetup Group. We rigged up some flashes with laser triggers around a woofer speaker with a trash bag stretched over it. The “musical drops” were added by putting drops of liquid (milk, corn starch, & food coloring) on the stretched trash bag. Then we turned off the lights, turned up the music, and opened the shutters of our cameras. The bass of the music caused the liquid to jump (Rhianna worked really great). When the drops reached a certain height they set off the laser triggers and the flashes went off. As soon as we saw a flash we closed and reopened our shutters. Each take had about 4 or 5 flashes before the liquid all mixed together into a mauve mess.
